About Us

We're Tiffany Tompkins and Melissa Zissou.
We created Opal & Joy to deal with our own perimenopause experiences: the broken sleep, the 3 am wake-ups, the anxiety that came from nowhere, the joint pain, the brain fog...
Our company is built on friendship, women supporting women, and one simple belief: you deserve better.
We went looking for clean, effective products that actually understood what was happening to our bodies, and couldn't find a single one. So we built them ourselves, because we needed them as much as you do.
But our story begins before that.
At 38, Tiffany was diagnosed with primary ovarian insufficiency. But no one told her it would bring on early perimenopause. For years, she suffered debilitating symptoms, like insomnia, anxiety, hot flashes, joint pain, inflammation, weight gain, and hair loss, without understanding what was happening to her body. Doctors told her everything looked "normal." She was left to cope alone and unsupported.
In her mid-40s, an endocrinologist finally connected the dots and confirmed what had been missing: Tiffany was in perimenopause. The diagnosis was also the first real answer to her question, "WTF is wrong with me?"
It was around this time that we met through the organics industry and quickly became besties. Tiffany told Melissa about her sleepless nights, racing thoughts, anxiety, sore joints, body inflammation, and more.
Melissa asked, "What's wrong with you?"
Tiff replied, "I'm in perimenopause."
At 41, Melissa replied with a question of her own: "What's perimenopause?"
Suddenly, her own sleep disruptions, anxiety, weight gain and general sense of not feeling quite like herself made sense.
Having spent the last decade working in hemp and cannabis media, reporting on cannabinoid science and plant-based wellness, Melissa suggested Tiffany try full-spectrum CBD to help manage some of her symptoms. It helped. Tiffany began sleeping again. She could think clearly. She felt like herself. That moment changed everything.
We looked for products on the market that contained cannabinoids, functional mushrooms and other botanical boosters that have been studied for their efficacy in helping women through perimenopause. Nothing existed.
So we decided to make them ourselves.
Tiffany has worked in the natural products and organic sectors for over 20 years, so we knew our standards had to be high.
We partnered with a women's health expert and functional medicine physician in Colorado. Over the next couple of years, we created unique, effective and trustworthy formulas.
Our products use organic ingredients where possible and contain no fillers, artificial ingredients, flavors or colors. They're also sugar-free — unlike most gummies — because sugar can trigger inflammation, the opposite of what a clean, natural product should do for your body in perimenopause.
We named Opal & Joy after our grandmothers, women who went through hormonal changes when it was rarely discussed or supported. We created this brand so women today don't have to suffer in shame or silence.
Our mission is to educate women about perimenopause, offer community and support, and create quality products that help women feel like themselves again.
Opal & Joy is made by women, for women navigating real hormonal change.
We help women go from asking, "What is happening to me?" to saying, "I've got this."
Sleep better. Feel steady. Live fully. Be Perimenoproud™.
Love,
Tiffany and Melissa
